BLACK SHAG OYSTERS is a family owned business, run by Danny and Anna Addison and sometimes the help of our two young children.
Danny trained in marine aquaculture, before working for one of the country's biggest exporters of Oysters, learning the trade first hand. Now he is proud to be working on his own farm in the pristine waters of the Mahurangi harbour.
Ever present on the farm is the graceful Black Shag who takes advantage of the farm structure to dry its wings, after feeding on small fish beneath the oyster racks. In Te Reo Maori The Black Shag is called Kawau. This seemed particularly appropriate as Kawau Island and Kawau Bay are local landmarks.
