How to open an OYSTER

While different methods are used to open an oyster (which sometimes depend on the type of oyster) the following is one commonly accepted oyster-shucking method.

 

Insert the blade, with moderate force midway up the right side of the oyster, about 2 O'Clock. 

Twist the blade until there is a slight pop.

Slide the blade downward to cut the adductor muscle which holds the shell closed.

 

Alternatively you can put them in the freezer overnight, and take them out as needed - after 20-30 mins they will start to open.
